Ourika is a well known river in Morocco's High Atlas mountain near Marrakech city. In order to adapt with the very cold weather women had to make rugs to warm up. Ourika rugs are made of high quality wool and they have their own unique Amazigh design.
Ourika is a river in Morocco that rises in the High Atlas mountain, about 30Km from Marrakech. Due to the cold weather in Ourika, women had to adapt by making rugs and blankets out of natural wool. In the beginning, the wool was undyed; only in brown and ivory colors, later they started adding colors to the rugs and got more creative design-wise; by adding geometric shapes, symbols and Imazighen letters to the original design.
This category of rugs highlights colorful concentric diamonds made from upcycled fabric mostly. They are popular for their pleasant upbeat vibe and exceptional designs and patternings.
