What's the Difference Between Moroccan Rugs and Babaekch Rugs?
Browsing our collections feels like exploring an open-air market; each piece is unique, sourced directly from Moroccan weavers and collectors, but they tend to sell quickly.
Every vintage rug is carefully inspected, professionally cleaned, carries the designs handwoven anywhere between 10 to 50 years, and draws on both traditional and modern influences. Our pre-made Moroccan rugs come from all around the well-known weaving regions. From Mrirt to Beni Ourain, our selection reflects the rich variety within Moroccan rug tribes. We rely on our artisan partners’ deep expertise and don’t impose design directives. Crafted in sturdy live wool, these rugs can endure for decades when properly maintained.
Our buying team collaborates with collectors and weavers to hand-select each rug listed. We highlight standout, one-of-a-kind pieces in our ads and on social media to showcase the craftsmanship at Babaekch. Once a one-off rug is sold, it’s removed from our site to spotlight other available treasures. Spot something you love? We recommend grabbing it before it’s gone, but if the design and palette are simple, we’re also happy to custom-create similar pieces.
Babakech Rugs: Babakech rugs are designed by our in-house design team. These pieces are made entirely by hand with live-wool and reflect styles ranging from modern, minimalist, transitional, to heritage-inspired. Our designers always “start with the weave,” beginning with the rug’s construction to determine the most complementary materials and colors. Unlike pre-made rugs, they are available in multiple sizes and colorways.
We Also Do Custom Sizes
See a rug you love but need it in a different size? We offer custom sizing on all of our made-to-order Moroccan rugs. Most designs can be woven in dimensions from 4’ up to 16’. If you're looking for a specific shape, like a runner, feel free to email us at contact@babakech.com. We're happy to send a mock-up of the design if needed. Since custom pieces require extra time and care, all custom orders are final sale once purchased.
Why Are Some Rugs Restocked While Others Are Not?
Restocks vary depending on the type of rug. As the name suggests, once a pre-made rug is sold, it’s not always restocked or brought back. On the other hand, our made-to-order pieces are part of an evolving collection that stays available. While we sometimes retire select pre-made styles or collections, many remain accessible. For those, you’ll see options to pre-order or get notified when they’re back in stock so you don’t miss your chance.
